I arrived in Pittsburgh on Wednesday, January 8th. With only two days, I was determined to try a lot of different foods, and coffee. I then decided to head to lunch for I was staring after the two-hour drive. Originally planning to head to Bae Bae's Kitchen, I ended up going to Brugge on North because it was closer to the museums that I was seeing. Here I had an apple salad. It was delicious with grated cheese, butternut squash, and nice vegetables. It was perfect especially because I am trying not to have as much meat because of Veganuary. I had a nice cup of green tea because it was starting to snow out and I wanted something to keep me warm. We ( my mom and I) continued walking and exploring, and later headed back to the hotel for dinner at 6:30 PM. At 6 PM we called an Uber to take us to the restaurant where we would be going to dinner. We made a reservation at a place called Acorn. When we got to Acorn both of us were a bit chilled. We were seated near the back, and it seemed a bit empty at the time we were going. Our waiter came over and asked us what we would want to drink. I ordered a mocktail called the Violet Beauregarde. My waiter made me guess how the drink got its name, but my mom said it is from Willy Wonka, something I would have never remembered. Anywho I was intrigued by the drink because it had butterfly pea flower tea in it, something that sounded enjoyable; however, the drink really did not taste like anything. Later we ordered our dinner and small plates. I ordered a duck lasagna, something that I saw on the restaurant's website, and knew I would like it, while my mom ordered gnocchi and roasted cauliflower. First, the waiter brought out the gnocchi for us to share together, for my mom allowed me to share a few of her gnocchi. They were delicious for there was fig sauce, and mushrooms, all good things that I enjoy. However, when the cauliflower came out, and my duck lasagna I was drawn to my lasagna. It smelled amazing and looked amazing. Yes, I was cheating a bit, eating meat; however, I was doing a good job of staying on a normal mostly vegetarian, schedule. The duck lasagna was just calling my name with the sweet potato, the pecans, and the grapes, something that I would not have thought of including. Later it was desert. I had a small pot of green tea, and my mom and I shared hot beignets, that came with three different dipping sauces: chocolate, butterscotch, and apple. My favorite dipping sauce was the butterscotch. I cut up my beignet and put the bits in the hot butterscotch sauce. Then my mom and I cut up another one, so we each would have had one and a half for the night, saving one more for each of us to have for breakfast for tomorrow morning. Acorn had delicious food and I would definitely go back there!

The second day in Pittsburgh: Thursday, January 9th.

My mom and I woke up to go into the Strip District where we found a cute little Italian-styled coffee place called La Prima Espresso Company. Here my mom and I both got a medium cappuccino, and then went over to where they served all the Italian deserts. Here we got three chocolate chip cannolis which we would bring home, and one Nutella Mele ( fuffed pastry) while my mom had an apple Mele. It was delicious and perfect with our cappuccio. Later, we continued to walk and came across a large Italian grocery store. We stopped here because we needed to get some mixed cheese for a family friend at this exact store. The store was called, Pennsylvania Macaroni Co. After getting the cheese, which they threw into a bag, we then wandered through the store.

Pennsylvania Macaroni Co.

I then saw all these Italian cookies, which I never took into account were Italian. Later, after wandering around in the Strip District, we wandered to a biscotti shop called, Enrico Biscotti Co, where we got some cookies for the road as well. I got a lavender cookie, while my mom got a lemon basil cookie. Additionally, my mom and I both got a sesame cookie, which was amazing, and we thought would go amazing with teas. My mom also got a limoncello cookie; which had an amazing glaze on it. We put our cookies in the car and then drove into Lawrenceville where we had lunch. In Lawrenceville, we had lunch at this cute little French cafe called Geppetto Cafe. The cafe had umbrellas hanging from the ceiling as well as hanging books and Pinocchio's. Here we sat down and near the back again, because we did not want to be by the door every time it opened. The seat that we had, had these cool pieces of local art that you could buy. One was a girl who had sunglasses on, and the other looked something like the kids game, Snakes and Ladders. While I look at it, the table that we were sitting near looks almost like the main coffee scene in FRIENDS.

When our waitress came I decided to get a crepe that was called the Bella. It had mushrooms, goat cheese, and spinach, it sounded very yummy and healthy and, also part of the Veganuary. My mom, on the other hand, got a panini; however, it had bacon in it. She was not really sticking to the Veganuary. Yet, when it came to our drinks, we both got teas. I got a nice green tea, that tasted kinda matcha(y) and my mom got a ginger tea. Once our food came, we both enjoyed our meals. I really enjoyed my crepe. I have to say, I am happy that I chose what I did for it was delicious! After lunch, we decided to walk around Lawrenceville before stopping at a little coffee shop to get some Guayaki Organic Brand Yerba Mate drinks. I got a Revel Berry flavor and my mom got a Grapefruit Ginger flavor. We wanted to get something to have in the car while driving home.

I was happy that we took this little trip to Pittsburgh; and happy with all the food that I enjoyed! I would definitely want to come back to Pittsburgh and visit more restaurants, cafes, and markets.

Wonder where I will visit next!
